Lion is one of the most powerful animal on this earth and it is also called big cat. They are also called the kings of the jungle and they roar in such a way that their roar can be heard even from a distance of about a mile. These lions are especially found in the Gir forest which is in India and India is known as the home of these animals. They are also found in East African countries, Southern Africa etc. World Lion Day is celebrated every year on 10 August to raise awareness about lions. The day also tries to mobilize support for the conservation of the lion.

India is home to Asiatic lions, which reside in the protected area of ​​the Sasan-Gir National Park. According to the WWF, lions were once found throughout Africa, Asia and Europe. But now the number of lions in these continents has reduced. The initiative to protect lions was started in 2013, so the first World Lion Day was celebrated in 2013 itself. Since then this day has become a symbol of the struggle to protect the lions. The last remaining population of Asiatic lions is found in the Gir National Park in Gujarat.

The Asiatic lion is scientifically called Panthera leo persica. Their height is about 110 cm. The adult male lion weighs between 160 and 190 kg and the female weighs between 110 and 120 kg. In 2020, the population of Asiatic lions in the Gir forests of Gujarat has increased by about 29%. The distribution area of lions has also increased by 36%.
