What would be your age if you were born on other planets?

Our Solar System

The Solar System consists of the Sun and the celestial bodies, which are bound to each other in this system by the force of gravity. Our solar system is made up of our sun and its planetary system. These bodies include eight planets, their 172 known satellites, five dwarf planets, and billions of smaller bodies. The Solar System is made up of the Sun and its orbiting planets, asteroids and comets. The Sun is in its center and the Neptune is at its outer boundary. Apart from dwarf planets like Pluto, comets also come beyond Neptune.

Why is your age different on other planets?

If I am 20 years old, it means that since I was born, the Earth has revolved around the Sun 20 times.

The orbital period or revolution period is the time a given celestial object takes to complete one orbit around another object, and thus the Earth takes one year to make one revolution around the Sun.

Each planet has a different period of revolution around the Sun. See the period of revolution of each planet in the table below (based on the period of revolution of Earth and Earth days).

Planet Sidereal Period
Mercury 0.240846 (87.9691 Earth days)
Venus 0.615 (225 Earth days)
Earth 1 (365.25636 days)
Mars 1.881 (687 Earth days)
Jupiter 11.86 (4,333 Earth days)
Saturn 29.46 (10,759 Earth days)
Uranus 84.01 (30,687 Earth days)
Neptune 164.8 (60,190 Earth days)
Pluto 248.1 (90,530 Earth days)

The time taken by a celestial body to complete one rotation on its axis is called a day. A day on Earth is 23 hours 56 minutes. Scientists use the duration of one Earth day as the basis for calculating the duration of one day of other planets. Using this standard, the duration of the day on the planets can be clearly calculated.

The table shows the duration of a day for the different planets of the solar system.

Planet Rotation period
Mercury 58.65 days
Venus 243.02 days
Earth 1 days (23 hours 56 minutes)
Mars 1.03 days (24 hour 37 minutes)
Jupiter 0.41 days (9 hour 55 minutes)
Saturn 0.44 days (10 hour 33 minutes)
Uranus 0.72 days (17 hour 14 minutes)
Neptune 0.67 days (15 hour 57 minutes)
Pluto 6.39 days
