Turtles
Turtles are members of the genus of reptiles called Testudines, which are recognized by the shield-like shell developed from their ribs covering the main part of their bodies. There are many species of both terrestrial turtles and aquatic turtles in the world. The earliest species of turtles arose 157 million years ago, which was even before the first snakes and crocodiles. That's why scientists consider them to be one of the oldest reptiles.
Many species of turtles have become extinct but 327 are still in existence today. Many of these species are in danger and their conservation is a matter of concern. Its age is more than 300 years. (Note: India's only turtle conservation project was started in 1989 in Bhitarkanika, Odisha).
Due to the unusually large number of cells in the retina of turtles, they are easily seen in the dark of night. It can see colors and can see everything from ultraviolet rays to red. In some land turtles, there is a very lack of speed, such a deficiency is seen in most of the hunters, who suddenly make their prey fast. Although some carnivorous turtles are able to move their heads rapidly.
